A quick fashion fix

Helpful tips will get you through any fashion emergency

We’ve all been there, dressed to the nines at an event where a fashion blunder happens at the most inconvenient time. There’s no need to panic, though. Just remember these helpful tips to get you out of any wardrobe malfunction with ease.

Masking Tape

Simple everyday things such as masking tape can save us the time, trouble and embarrassment of emergency situations.

Nothing can make your clothes look worn out more than lint and it’s a nuisance to remove with no lint roller available. Wrap a few strips of tape around your hand and voila! A makeshift lint roller.

Use masking tape or duct tape to hem pants or skirts on the inner seam without lifting a needle and thread. I wouldn’t recommend this for long-term use, but it works magic for a quick fix.

Double sided tape can also be a girl’s best friend when it comes to falling bra straps or keeping pieces of an outfit intact.

Clear nail polish

Apply a dab of clear polish to a run in your panty hose to prevent further damage.

Do you have old jewelry that leaves a blue/green mark on your hands? Paint on a light coat on the inside of bracelets or rings to banish these stains.

Clear nail polish can also be used to temporarily keep loose buttons in place, or keep a snag in a sweater or scarf from unraveling.

When life gives you lemons, make deodorant?

If you’ve been out and about for some time and notice you don’t smell your best and find no body sprays in sight, resort to lemons. This may sound crazy, but lemons have a citrus scent that can overtake any body odor and a dab on the wrists and under arms will do the trick. Just make sure to discard the lemon after!

Speaking of deodorant, we all know a fast way to ruin any outfit is to have white marks on dark clothing. Simply get a pair of pantyhose and rub it on the area for a more presentable look.

More helpful tips:

Sweaters tend to pill over time and create unattractive balls of fabric. Rub a piece of Velcro onto the pilling area for a pill-free sweater that will look and feel brand new.

Baby wipes can help remove make up or dirt stains on clothing. Lightly dab it on the affected area to ensure it doesn’t smear and spread.

Managed to get lipstick on your teeth? A dab of petroleum jelly on your teeth will prevent color from sticking.

A stuck zipper can be fixed with a bit of wax from a candle or a bar of soap. Something with a slippery surface and a bit of fiddling will get the zipper back on track.

If you lost draw strings on a jacket or pants, an easy solution are shoe laces (boot laces are longer). Thread the laces through with a coat hanger and make sure the ends have knots.

To be ready for any fashion emergency it’s a good idea to keep safety pins on you, as they can aid you in moments when you least expect it.
