PRIESTESS - Prior To The Fire

Prior To The Fire may have been my first exposure to these Montreal metal heads, but they immediately made a good impression with Lady Killer, the album’s opener. The album unexpectedly then moves on to the eight-minute-opus The Gem. I certainly didn’t anticipate the longest song on the album becoming my favourite, but it won me over. There certainly were a few tracks that took multiple listenings to appreciate. Unfortunately, all this good fortune could not save It Baffles The Mind, the appropriately mind-bafflingly bad track, which sadly breaks up the album. Though Priestess does have a fairly standard metal sound, they sound like they give a really kick-ass live performance. I hope to be there when they play live at the Pyramid on Wednesday, Nov. 25. Perhaps I’ll see you there.
