What do you think of natural births? Are they safe?

  • Hy Nguyen, second-year student, arts

I think it’s OK. There’s a point to having midwives. You can’t disregard their profession.

  • Dino Corriette, salesman

If the women are choosing to do it, I think it’s OK.  But if I was a woman I’d want to be put out for that.

  • Harry Wall, first-year student, psychology

I can understand there’s a sort of unseen comfort people feel knowing there’s a doctor around, but I think having a midwife deliver your baby is just as safe as having a doctor do it. I just think people aren’t used to the idea of midwives anymore.

  • Kim Starkewski, nurse

I’m OK with it as long as you know it’s going to be a safe birth. But you don’t always know it’s going to be a safe birth.

  • Leigh Anne Parry, third-year student, theatre

Yeah. You have a midwife, that’s what they’re for. There’s a lot of knowledge that midwives have that’s different from what doctors have.

  • Jim Torz, fourth-year student, politics

Safe, yes. But as safe as a hospital, no. I wouldn’t risk it.
