Third-year student Alix Krahn has always been passionate about sports. Inspired by her volleyball-loving family, she began playing the game when she was 12 years old.

In 2007, Krahn came to the University of Winnipeg to play for the Wesmen. When asked why she chose the Wesmen, Krahn said she was drawn to the U of W itself as well as to its volleyball program.

“I had heard awesome things about the school from an educational and athletic standpoint,” she said.

Krahn balances school and volleyball, studying kinesiology and working towards her Bachelor of Science degree. She plans to continue her education after her first degree in either med school or physiotherapy.

As for volleyball, Krahn is looking forward to this season.

“The team has a lot of new players, but they fit in well and practices have been going well,” she said.

“My goal for volleyball is to day-in and day-out become a better player … I really enjoy everyone [on the team] and I think we have a really great team bond going already, which is critical to success.”

Krahn loves to be challenged in volleyball and enjoys being pushed every day by head coach Diane Scott to constantly challenge herself to get better.”

Krahn reflects fondly on the majority of her experiences with the program.

“My favorite Wesmen memory would have to be getting the opportunity to play with some outstanding athletes and be in an intense learning environment with them.”

She also highlighted the importance of the friendships she has developed with her past and present teammates.

Krahn believes this year will be a good one.

“I’m really looking forward to working with everyone and getting better as a team.”
