JON AND ROY - Another Noon

While discussing what makes for good talk radio, someone recently told me that it can’t be beige – beige is the death of talk radio. Well, it’s the death of music too. There’s nothing particularly wrong with Jon and Roy’s Another Noon, but there’s nothing particularly good about it either. Consisting of Jon Middleton (vocals, guitar), Roy Vizer (drums, percussion) and Ryan Tonelli (bass), the Victoria-based band is rather blah on this, their second CD: gentle vocals are sung over softly strummed guitars and subdued, sometimes reggae-inspired djembe rhythms. If Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Jack Johnson mated and had a son who wasn’t very good at writing songs, this is what he would sound like. If that’s your thing, then check out Another Noon and see the band when they open for Cat Empire on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at the Garrick.
