The last thing Rupesh Patel, owner of Extreme Pita at 491 Portage Ave., expected to hear one fateful morning was that his restaurant was destroyed. On Wednesday, Dec. 30, a U-Haul truck drove into the west side of Extreme Pita, located beside the University of Winnipeg, and rearranged his kitchen. Nobody was hurt, but the next three months had to be spent getting the place back in shape.

“The majority of the equipment had to be replaced,” Patel said.

His six employees, who have not worked since the crash, will be returning. The décor will be updated, but the menu will stay the same.

They are aiming to be open again on Thursday, March 11, with a grand opening celebration on Friday, March 26.
