CHRIS PAGE - A date with a smoke machine

The Stand GT, of Glengarry, Ont., was a favourite in the punk circles of the early to mid ‘90s here in the city. Their music never really got me, but they were just personable and great to hang out with, and you could tell they loved doing what they were doing. Fastforward 15 years and GT guitarist Chris Page is still making records, usually with the punky power pop trio Camp Radio. But this time around, Chris kicks everyone out of the studio except his Camp Radio mate Dave Draves to deliver 12 introspective and intimate tracks that are truly in touch. A date with a smoke machine at times reflects a need to let a story tell itself, not unlike Paul Westerberg and his voice really reminds me of TJ Plenty from Dish-era Asexuals. This record is quiet and approaches his memories with reverence and poetry while he takes us to tiny pockets of a world of a man addicted to music.
