Re: The Uniter’s annual Urban Issue

“No Parking” and “Parking” are digital prints of the City of Winnipeg’s downtown core. As an artist, I am intrigued by the all too familiar sentence “there is not enough parking in downtown Winnipeg.” With this in mind, I wanted to see what the actual percentage of space that downtown surface parking lots take up in this city. With the help of Google Earth I created the following two digital images; “Parking” (all surface parking lots) and “No Parking” (the absence of surface parking lots). I have been exploring the parking lots of Winnipeg through several different media including digital printing, etching and textiles. This work is available at Martha Street Studio.
