Demolition Men

Is destruction of private property an art form? These two men think so.

Christopher John Macquarrie, 25, and Jonathan Marnarellis Fager, 22, were charged with criminal mischief last month attempting to create a new “piece” for their art exhibit, reported The Gainsville Sun.

The Florida residents were arrested while using a sledgehammer and croquet balls to do US$12,000 worth of damage to one of the men’s apartment.

The duo reportedly explained to the confused police officers they were hoping to turn the apartment into an art gallery.

The two’s escapades included stripping the apartment’s drywall, shattering mirrors and windows, and critically damaging the balcony, roof and frame of the dwelling.

Macquarrie and Fager are currently being held in the Alachua County Jail for their heinous crimes of renovation.

Prince Of Piece

Rudolph’s nose wasn’t his only extremity that was red this Christmas.

One homeowner’s Christmas display, which featured Jesus shooting Santa Claus and a run-over Rudolph had residents of a California neighborhood up in arms, reported WFTV.com.

Ron Lake of Nipomo said his Christmas display was an expression of his “repressed creativity,” and that Santa represents “the commercialism of Christmas.”

Neighbors were worried the display was scarring children, as a school bus stop was directly in front of the house.

“I know it’s freedom of speech, but it’s pretty disturbing and there are lots of children. That’s our main concern,” one neighbor said.

Police were unable to force Mr. Lake to remove his display of creativity because it sits on private property.

Perhaps WWJD was a little to vague for Ron.

Divine Disfunction

Was Joseph able to satisfy Mary sexually after she dropped the whole ‘virgin’ thing? One Anglican church seems to doubt it.

A billboard in Auckland, New Zealand depicting a dejected looking Joseph under bed covers beside a disappointed-looking Mary has been stirring up controversy in the region, reported Reuters.

The advertisement, sponsored by St. Matthew In-The-City Church, contains the underlying caption “Poor Joseph. God is a hard act to follow.”

While the Catholic Church has condemned the billboard, Glynn Cardy, the St. Matthew’s archdeacon, maintains the advertisement has a purpose.

“What we’re trying to do is to get people to think more about what Christmas is all about,” Cardy said.

“Is it about a spiritual male God sending down sperm so a child would be born, or is it about the power of love in our midst as seen in Jesus?”

Let’s hope he went with the latter.

Flynt Strikes

Hustler has high standards? Larry Flynt says so.

Flynt has taken his nephews, Jimmy Flynt Jr. and Dustin Flynt, to court for making what he calls “inferior adult films” with his good name, reported LA Times.

The brothers, who launched their own line of adult films under the name “Flynt” earlier this year, have rejected Larry’s claims, saying that he is just out to crush the competition.

But Mr. Flynt Sr. has maintained he has a reason.

“I think there’s a thin line. As a society we’ve come to accept what I like to refer to as ‘vanilla sex,’ ” Flynt said. “But if you get too trashy, people get uncomfortable.”

The trial, which is expected to last a week, will feature many exhibits of ample-chested women, challenging the jury to decide whether these “inferior” films were in fact likely to damage Mr. Flynt’s upstanding image.

Unfortunately this event will not be televised.
