Security threat

A security threat was found scrawled on the wall of a men’s bathroom at the University of Winnipeg Monday night.
The message was found by a U of W student at around 8:30 p.m. on March 23. The student notified campus security and the police were called.
“Please be advised that a statement causing security concerns was reported to Security Services last evening,” stated an U of W internal memo distributed Tuesday afternoon.
“The Winnipeg Police Service has been notified and is investigating, and the university is coordinating its security efforts with police,” the memo stated.
This is the second such threat the university has faced in under a year. A threat discovered in Sept. 2007 caused havoc at the university, with Security Services implementing bag checks that delayed students for up to an hour.
At the time, students were forced to wait in long lineups that snaked around the university’s exterior. These lineups would have made them easy targets for an attack, and in turn caused some to question security’s tactics.
“Our first priority is the safety of everyone at the university,” the memo stated. “Over the past year, the University has put in place a number of enhancements and protocols that are now being utilized to improve campus safety and security.”
Details about the threat can’t be released due to the ongoing investigation.
