Comeback Kid to start production on new album in March

Jeremy Hiebert, guitarist for local hardcore heroes Comeback Kid, revealed on his Twitter page this past Saturday, Feb. 6, that the band will head to Toronto to record next month after its current Australian tour is over.

“Packing for the three monther,” Hiebert tweeted at 8:34 a.m. before adding at 9:12 a.m. that the Australian tour “is only a few weeks but we’re going straight to Toronto to record right after followed by a US tour.”

The news follows a Feb. 2 tweet on the band’s Twitter page indicating that their next CD will come out this year.

“It’s been awhile,” the tweet reads. “How is everyone? Did I mention Comeback Kid is writing a new record that will be out this year? I didn’t? WE ARE.”

When asked where and with whom the band would record, as well as when exactly the album will be released, a source at Smallman Records - the band’s Canadian label - said that the band had not finalized any other details yet.

The upcoming release will be Comeback Kid’s fourth studio album and its first release since the 2008 live CD/DVD package Through the Noise. The quintet has sold upwards of 200,000 combined copies of its first three albums (2003’s Turn It Around, 2005’s Wake the Dead and 2007’s Broadcasting…), has toured through 30 different countries and is on the road six to nine months of the year.

“It’s fucking great, man,” lead singer Andrew Neufeld, 28, said in a September 2008 interview with The Uniter when asked about the good fortune the band has had. “It’s awesome. I think about that all the time, and I think about my future a lot and I hope that I can be as lucky as I have been in the past.”

Comeback Kid was recently nominated for an Independent Music Award for Favourite Punk/Hardcore Artist/Group. “The Indies” will take place on Mar. 13 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel during the 2010 Canadian Music Week festivities in Toronto.
