True love, and comedy, knows no bounds

Winnipeg actor moving overseas holding one final hurrah

Local actor/writer Victor Enns is moving to England to be with his girlfriend.
Enns will say good-bye to Winnipeg with a farewell show on Saturday, Nov. 17.

Would you leave behind the life you knew to be with the one you love?

Victor Enns is, but not before saying goodbye the way he knows best: a sketch comedy show.
The local actor/writer/romantic is packing up his life in Winnipeg to move to London, England to be with his musician fiancée, Rouhangeze Baichoo.

His production company, Innerfreq, presents Mind the Gap, an evening of comedy that pays homage to the famous London Subway signs that also represents the distance that will be between his old home and his new, and the miscommunication we all experience in our daily lives, which Enns believes is the basis for all good comedy.

Moving great distances for his art is something that the multi-talented Enns is familiar with. Over the course of his Canadian career he has had improv ventures in Toronto, film gigs in Winnipeg, and produced works in Vancouver, as well as attended training in each of these cities.

A “last minute decision a month or so ago” has turned into Enns’s way of wrapping up his Manitoba life, including the home renovation work that he is self-employed by, and saying goodbye to friends and family.

“I’m trying to change a lot of things,” Enns says with a laugh. “Including Bachelor Vic, ‘cause Bachelor Vic needs to die. I’m leaving him behind.”

The story of how Enns met his fiancée makes for a 21st Century fairy tale, which would then be immediately adapted into a romantic comedy for the big screen.

“I got a ‘friend invite’ on Facebook,” Enns says. The invite, which came a few years ago, was from a French jazz singer from the island of Mauritius, which Enns immediately discounted.

“I was like, ‘That’s spam. That’s obviously spam’,” Enns laughs. “But it doesn’t sound like the worst thing ever. I’m going to click on it, just to see what happens.”

Baichoo was looking to connect with other artists from around the globe, and had been misled by Enns’s profile picture at the time.

“I had a picture of me playing the violin, which is completely a lie. It was all very chance-y.”

The pair became fast friends, which Enns attributes to Baichoo being a very “broad-minded person,” and reconnected more recently, once again by chance.

“Her expanding her world is really what brought us together.”

Enns describes this show as him letting go of sketch comedy. He says this will probably be the last time he does this type of show.

“I’m going to try doing some bigger things, instead of things I just think are ‘fun’,” he says. “Things that I’m scared to see if I can do or not.”

Enns says he is even trying new things with Mind the Gap, that not everyone may get.

“If they don’t, I’m moving to London, so, whatever,” Enns says as he gets the last laugh.
