The Proud Sons

This Winnipeg five piece evolved from radio rockers AM Glory (which evolved from Accepting Silence) and does power pop country served just right. Recorded at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis with producer Tommy Mac (Hedley) and engineer Dean Maher (AC/DC), this five song EP sounds big and shiny, with a little bit of rust for good measure. Opener “Rollin’ Stone” chips down dirt roads with ease, while “Soulless Woman” relives the glory of AM radio. If a five song EP can be epic, this one certainly aims to be (and somewhat succeeds, despite the boy-band vocals of the grown men). Technically everything is in the right place for mainstream success, but it does sort of scream “young band discovers old records, changes sound” when you factor in that up until five minutes ago this was a pop punk outfit. But bands do need to grow and evolve, and they take to this sound naturally. Either way - the Sons have produced a radio-ready hit with Southern Hospitality.
