The power of aphrodisiacs

What we eat affects all parts of our life; our ability to study, exercise, be in a good mood, and even to stimulate our senses.

Aphrodisiacs are powerful foods said to increase chemicals in the brain related to feelings of love and arousal.

Raising our energy levels and instigating the sex drive, certain foods have been identified for centuries throughout many different cultures as being associated with fertility and passion.

While chocolate is probably the best known aphrodisiac, it is not the healthiest choice. There are many more nutritious foods that can claim similar benefits.

Abundant with nutrients, lots of different vegetables are among these nourishing aphrodisiacs.

Asparagus is high in vitamin A, potassium and folic acid, all of which are related to an enhanced sex drive.

Rich in phytochemicals, avocados are purported to have a similar effect.

The high protein content in almonds makes them an ideal way to maintain energy levels and stamina. Other aphrodisiacs high in protein include eggs, mussels and oysters.

Oysters are an excellent source of zinc, which also contributes to their reputation as a love food because this nutrient raises sperm and testosterone production.

Ginger, in addition to its potential medicinal properties of relieving nausea and preventing against inflammatory disorders, has been linked to stimulating blood circulation and releasing sex hormones.

Spices that produce these favourable results also include cloves, cardamom and basil. The heat from chili peppers releases endorphins too and is thus related to feelings of pleasure.
To step it up a notch, go for class with caviar or foie gras. Another more luxurious, expensive food source, champagne is said to evoke sensuality.

Many fruits are also reputed as aphrodisiacs, if you like something a little sweeter.

Apples, bananas, figs and berries are among these naturally sweet and nutritious foods. Dipping them in chocolate to create a fondue is a classic way to couple together several aphrodisiacs in one delicious dessert.

The list of foods claimed to be aphrodisiacs is an extensive one that has roots from all corners of the world. Although it is debatable as to whether or not these foods do in fact enhance the libido, they are energizing sources of nutrition.

It might be mostly due to the placebo effect, but most foods that are energizing and nutrient-dense can be perceived as potential ingredients for inducing passion.
