@Martin. yes and no.
@James. This is my opinion. As a writer i have to spell out for the audience what it is that i am listening to and then give an opinion.
How many four-star reviews are you going to read in the Uniter for local musicians with no critical thought or objectivity to what is being delivered, save for the local variable.
I actually thought that this would be a pleasant release, having enjoyed immensely the source material over the years but truthfully, i think this was a bad bong toke joke taken too far. I don’t think that mentioning his style as tone-deaf is out of line (it is the aesthetic he is going for)..I cannot imagine why he would record the word “nigga” 78 times over 7 tracks and then edit it out…it just seemed like a misplaceed sentiment.This was also the second time i wrote that review, the first one self-rejected because it was real mean and out of line. I think that my redux of the review is fair. I can’t tell you how ANGRY i was listneing to this but found the strength to reel it in and stay objective though less positive than perhaps they (and you) would have liked.

Ha..
“be extra considerate to local musicians, you will be able to hurt their feelings”
That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard - ever.Yes - best to let sub-par musicians think they are better than they are just because they live in the same town. Unbelievable.
The music review is to let a person know if they should purchase or not purchase a disc etc. When you put your stuff out there - you give people permission to say what they will. Crying foul - or just crying about it is asinine. If you can’t handle criticism, don’t send it out.
I now know not to purchase this disc - success!

Crizwell is right. Too many people get their panties in a twist over what a Uniter reviewer thinks of a CD they like. If you want everyone to agree with your assessment of a certain piece of music, don’t read reviews or you may have to face a different opinion. Furthermore, local musicians don’t deserve any coddling simply because they’re local. If they’re ever going to get to the big leagues, they need to be prepared for haters. And, James? His commentary on the artists’ personal lives, if anyone but you interprets it that way, lasted all of three words, hardly enough to merit your “constructive” criticism.

Hey, it’s not a big deal if lee didn’t understand the EP.
make up your own mind and love it or hate it at ... http://www.myspace.com/ultramegaultra
and send us a message, we love feedback.
(oh, also, as a side note, this EP went to #2 on UMFM so i’m glad some people liked it enough to hear over and over)

No, Lee understood it. He understood it in his way and in his understanding it sucked. This is as valid an interpretation as any.

This is great! Glad I could help getting the discussion going. I guess bashing someone else’s work does amount to something.
