Rodrigo Munoz is probably better known by his stage persona, Papa Mambo. He and his group have been entertaining Winnipeggers for the past 20 years. He is lesser known for his incredible abilities on classical guitar. Perhaps A Mis Padre (“to my parents”) will change that. It should. This is an incredible CD of primarily solo guitar. Erika Donald accompanies him on one track on cello. Another track is a guitar duet – but because he plays both parts, does this really count? Contained on the CD are 23 beautifully performed Latin pieces. Each bears his delicate, dexterous stamp – a touch as delicate as silk except when he doesn’t want it to be. Why he is not on the international circuit will remain unanswered with this production.
