Black Arts Fest & West End Cultural Centre present an intimate concert with one of Africa’s greatest and most important bandleaders, Thomas Mapfumo, and his band, The Blacks Unlimited. The inaugural artist of the Black Arts Fest concert series, fans can expect vintage Mapfumo music: catchy, danceable, full of vibe and gusto.
Several local guests will also perform including JUNO-nominated Anishinaabe singer/songwriter Leonard Sumner, artist & CBC Up to Speed host Ismaila Alfa, Super Duty Tough Work front man Brendan Kinley, and genre-bending outfit Guerrillas of Soul
Mapfumo has toured with Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi, performed with Bonnie Raitt, Johnny Clegg, Hugh Masekela, Kronos String Quartet, and Bob Marley & The Wailers, and played Carnegie Hall.
