Winnipeg—Students, family, friends and supporters of Kendra McBain will hold the 11th annual Kendra’s Walk, keeping alive her wish to help teenagers living with cancer.

Kendra’s Walk 2019 takes place:
Friday, May 24, 2019 - 2:00 p.m.
St. John’s-Ravenscourt School
400 South Drive, Winnipeg

At the age of 15, St. John’s-Ravenscourt student, Kendra McBain, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer, alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. Kendra spent countless hours of her teen years undergoing treatment in the children’s section of CancerCare Manitoba. The care was excellent, but as a teenager struggling with a life-threatening disease, Kendra sometimes wished she could get away from the noise and playthings of the younger children.
So, Kendra decided to raise money to create a special place just for teens at CancerCare Manitoba—a welcoming sanctuary for those young people who were no longer children, but were also not yet adults. Despite her terrible illness, Kendra put incredible heart and energy into organizing an event called Kendra’s Walk.
The inaugural walk took place on May 29, 2009. Kendra’s courage, her determination and her sunny smile won the hearts and support of thousands of people in the community. The event raised more than $160,000 for CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. Kendra’s efforts not only provided a cozy room designed specifically for teens with cancer, but also significant funds for CancerCare Manitoba’s Teens Living with Cancer (TLC) support program, and further research into rhabdomyosarcoma. To date, Kendra’s Walk has raised more than $850,000. All funds raised continue to support CancerCare Manitoba’s research for teens living with cancer and the room for teenagers to relax and get away from the stresses of their illness. This year, funds raised will be directed towards PROFYLE (Terry Fox PRecision Oncology For Young PeopLE), a new project for CancerCare Manitoba Foundation which aims to give children, adolescents and young adults who are out of convential treatment options another chance to beat their cancer.
We have received contributions and sponsorships from Across The Board Game Cafe, Five Small Rooms, Orange Theory, Hilary Druxman, Kahunaverse and Foodfare.
Kendra graduated from St. John’s-Ravenscourt School in June 2009 and passed away in December 2009 at the age of 18. Kendra’s Walk continues to make a difference to the lives of teens with cancer. You can help us build on Kendra’s legacy.
