“Indigo Dreams” touches upon our unconscious state and how this connects with our physical dreams. I intertwine the themes of water and flowers with the stylistic influences of famous Impressionists and Abstract Expressionist such as Monet, Rothko, Klein, and Frankenthaler. In doing so I seek to pay homage to their ideas and processes and highlight what influenced them: awareness of the unconscious. By connecting dreams to the the colour indigo I have sought to present a body of work which allows the viewer to get lost in the shades of blue…to relax…and….to DREAM.

ARTIST BIO

Elsi Elizabeth Mason is a Winnipeg artist whose primary focus on art has been in the education field, whether it was being the teacher who said, “I’ll teach the art classes for the school!” to completing her Masters in Visual Art Education in 2017. After taking time off to raise her family, Elsi began working as a substitute teacher, using her experience as an art educator to be the go-to sub for art teachers in three different Winnipeg school divisions.

Her early years growing up in Nova Scotia instilled in her a love of atmospheric ocean blues. After moving to Manitoba for her first teaching job in 1990, she has come to embrace the endless rolling blues, whites, and greys of the prairie skies.
